Meet the founder
I’m Skye Hunter, a Kulin woman with deep connections across the Kulin Nation and the founder of Ganbu Country. My work is grounded in care for Country, cultural responsibility, and a commitment to self-determined pathways for Indigenous people.
My purpose is deeply personal. It is shaped by my ongoing relationship with Country and my dedication to learning, honouring, and strengthening my cultural knowledge. Through Ganbu Country, I focus on caring for threatened landscapes, including the Box–Ironbark forest, while creating meaningful opportunities that support Indigenous-led conservation, innovation, and sovereignty.
My cultural and kinship connections span across the Kulin Nation, reflecting shared cultural ties and responsibilities that continue to guide my work.
I currently manage a private property within the Box–Ironbark forest, where my team and I are actively involved in conservation and restoration efforts. Our work includes installing nesting boxes, monitoring wildlife through fauna cameras, conducting flora and fauna surveys, collecting native seeds, applying sustainable agricultural practices, and managing invasive species without the use of chemicals.
Hand-harvesting native plants on Country that holds deep cultural and familial significance is central to my practice. This careful, intentional approach reflects my responsibility to Country and informs the development of Ganbu Country’s skincare range, which is guided by respect, reciprocity, and sustainability.
As an advocate for Indigenous-led environmental restoration and innovation, I envision a future where Indigenous people can strengthen their relationships with Country, share knowledge responsibly, and build lasting prosperity for generations to come. Through Ganbu Country, I invite you to walk alongside me on a journey grounded in healing, care for land, and self-determination.
